Title: Getting Adventurous
Post by: BigPete on December 29, 2011, 08:09:27 am
This is one of Charlie Dearing's Pattern's and i'm sure he posted his cutting of this subject not so long ago. Had to think what cuts to leave to the end as some fragile bits , it was cut from 6.5mm (1/4) birch ply with a 3mm (1/8") ply backing, i cut it with a 3# fd ur and was my most adventurous project so far and i am pleased with the outcome ;) .
A qustion for the more seasoned scrollers , i am a top feeder and sometimes find it difficult to align the drill hole with the hole in the table! this is ok when you have a new blade and it is aligned with the hole but after a few cuts i sometimes find that the blade is just off alignment makeing it a bit more difficult to pass the blade through !. Any thoughts... Pete

Replaced original photo with smaller one as original one could have been used as a pattern and that would be unfair to charlie as it is his business  ;).
The cutting measures 22" x 15"
Mainewoods, I think i will stick with top feeding as i think i would end up with a sore back if i were to look under all the time ;D

Charlie's patterns are challenging.  But they make for an impressive piece when you finish.  Sometimes other scrollers are the only ones who can completely appreciate all your hard work.  Anyone can see however, you did a great job. Thanks for sharing.

Made me want to hand him a carrot I expected him to nicker!
Beautiful job of cutting.
Charlie will test your skill!
I did his Quigley pattern and know what you were up against.
Be sure and put it in the gallery.
