Hi Amanda, Welcome to the forum! I'm Dan From Southern California. Come on in And join the fun! My first bit of  advice is take the saw out of the box! Set it up. touch it, feel it, and read the manual! Then, put in a blade, see how it runs, get a piece of wood and see how it cuts. Then start asking the questions! We will be here to help with all you questions. Good luck!

Glad you found us. Hi I'm Russ from Florida. Welcome to the Scrollsaw Forum. A day without saw dust is like a day without sunshine.  :)

As a new member you have to take this creed;

This is my Scroll Saw. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My Scroll Saw is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.My Scroll Saw, without me, is useless. Without my Scroll Saw, I am useless.
Because it is my life I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories.
Before all other Scrollers, I swear this creed.

Just kidding. LMBO  :)  :)  :)

Hi Amanda,
I'm Jim from Ontario.  Welcome to the group.  One of the main things to remember is that your first cuts won't be perfect.  But don't fret, because the more you scroll, the better you will become.  So practice, practice, practice.

Welcome Amanda. Can't make up my mind about your boyfriends motives, he may be cleaver in that he will not have to spend any more money on taking you out any more, as you will, as we all do, only want to make sawdust. Or is he being silly as he will be missing out on your company?? Just kidding, but remember there is a lot of frustration in learning. There are times when you just want to throw the saw out of the nearest window, at that point just walk away and try again in a couple of hours and many of the frustrations will have gone or as has been said there are many World Class Scrollers on this site and every one of them very helpfulllllll. Good luck, happy Christmas. Ian Giles from Caerleon near Cardiff.
