Hey,
I am pretty new to Scrolling and yesterday I tried cutting 1" Oak for a project and I thought I would never get done. Slow, slow. Used FD ur #5, some FD HD 7 and it doesn't seem to matter. What is everybody using and what speed when they cut this really hardwood? As usual, thanks for your input.

im interested too. i would like to use a hard wood for a clock but afraid of braking blades

I use a #9 FD or Olsen blade, with packing tape over the area that I'm cutting and have had no trouble. I wear the blades out, but seldom break a blade this size.

I use #5 Fd ur on our local hard woods and don't have much of a problem really hard wood takes a bit longer to cut, I run my saw at around half speed for this wood

I'm the same as Jimbo. FD #5 ultra reverse and normally run the saw at about 1/2 speed. With this setup I usually have no problems with any of the hardwoods that I cut.

On the really heavy stuff like that I use an Olson PGT #9. The most aggressive blade in my arsenal. I have the "thick wood" blades to, but I like the pgt's, outside of the pgts I use FD's.

for my bowls i use 5/4 wich is 1 1/8 thick i have no trouble with olsen #7 reverse i have found that biger blades dont always wrok better because thy are thicker try out #5 or #7 but remember you are cuting alot of wood and there is realy no blade that will zip thew it fast take your time and have fun

Anytime you are cutting a 1" thick hard wood on a scroll saw it is going to be slow. That is just the way it is. Just kick back relax and have a good time and enjoy what you made when you are finished. Oh and a beer or two on the journey helps. LOL :)
