I received 2 of these pieces of wood (8" wide 8' long x 3/4" thick) The guy who gave it to me didn't know what it is, I'm not sure either. So I thought I'd ask the pro's! I did sand a little bit and oil it for the picture.
Thanks,
Bob

It's hard to tell Bob. Is it heavy or light?
-
Dan, it's actually pretty light.
-
Hard to judge.. could be rosewood..
-
i'm guessing some type of wood that passes for mahogny.
-
I was given some wood that kind of looks like that. What I was given was Pillippine mahogny.

I've been researching this wood and think that Gene and Termite are on the right track. The closest coloring and grain match appears to be possibly Red Mahogany. My earlier post stating this wood is light was simply wrong, I musta been feeling very strong earlier cus this wood is actually very heavy. I have another piece of known Mahogany that I compared it to, the grains are similar, but the unknown wood is quite yellower then the other piece.
Thanks for your help, at this point I'm calling it Mahogany, unless someone else can Identify what it really is.

This is a learning experience for I had no idea , I've never used Mahogany before - so it's different looking than I guess it would look - it does look as if there is some bug damage .......................MN

is it stained?? looks like. Run a sander above to see of some comes off.
Mahogany would be quite heavy and hard.
-
I would guess Mahogany too. The picture looks like some that I used on a project awhile back. :)
