Title: Blade selection and speed control???
Post by: shrimpmojo on May 14, 2010, 06:53:49 pm
Hello everyone!
I really strugle with blade selection on what i cut. Can anybody give me a good guide to what blade size for wood thicknesses??? I use alot of 1inch pine and 1/4 inch birch and i also do stack cutting with the 1/4 inch. One time i was cutting 1/4 inch single board and man i could not control the direction of the blade...this brings another question. Should i slow the speed down of my saw when i cut just a single 1/4 board to have better control???

I try to use a throw away backer when cutting something as thin as 1/4 inch just scrap 3/8ths or 1/2 ply to help with control if that is not an option just use a fine enough blade like a #1 or a 2/0 to keep at least 2 or three teeth in contact with the wood at all times that makes it a little easier to control. good luck

Take a look at scrollit.com.  There is an article titled "what blade should I use."  Also Olsonsaw.com has a chart of the different Olson blades, but the information is helpful.  And checkout Mike's Workshop for blade information and a good place to get Flying Dutchman blades.
