Hey Everybody,
Have a problem with white spots showing up after I spray Lacquer on a project.
Used Lemon oil and let it dry for a day and sprayed Lacquer on project and let it dry, used 0000 steel wool lightly before I sprayed another Lacquer coat. Third time around white spots appeared after drying and steel wool removed spots, but after applying more Lacquer, the white spots reappeared. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Bon

maybe, it depends on how large the spots are. When spraying either lacquer or shellac you cna get what is called a blush. A blush results when you get too heavy a coat. Particularly on a humid day. It will sometimes dissappear after a day or two as the humidity bleeds out. By the way, it really isn't necessary to sand or rub with wool between coats of lacquer as the solvent in the new coat will partially dissolve the surface of the prior coat. My favorite finish with either lacquer or shellac is multiple coats and when thoroughly dried rub with 0000 steel wool dipped in paste wax. You get a very even finish, and a soft feel to the finish.

Steel wool dipped in paste wax :o :o I've never heard of that or maybe never paid attention when mentioned (more likely the case) I gotta try that!!

It has not happened to me but I have heard of it happening to others when the lacquer is applied on a humid day. For that reason, I don't spray on rainy days.

If it is related to humidity try running a hair dryer while the lacquer is setting up. Not to much heat, just a bit dryer then otherwise.

I have agree with the humidity problem on this white spot problem ........

Bon,
How were you spraying the lacquer? Were you using a rattle can or a spray gun/compressor? If using the spray gun and compressor, do you have a line drier and filter on it? It could be possible that there is moisture in your compressed air that is contaminating your finish. Just a thought.
