Title: NEW MEMBER
Post by: Toneman on November 09, 2011, 05:10:33 pm
Hello, my name is Tony Cunningham and I am just now beginning the hobby of scrolling. In fact, I have not purchased a saw yet. I have been reading and studying about scrolling now for about 6 weeks and found  this site to be the most useful. I am either going to purchase a Dewalt 788 or a Delta 40-690  saw and any advise would be gratefully appreciated. I am 69 yrs old, so whatever I buy will be my first and last scroll saw. LOL

Hey Tony, Welcome from Southern California. Come on in and join the fun! As far as your saw choice's, Either one will serve you well as they are the same saw, just painted different colors. If you want to go up a level, Go with the Excalibur EX21.  either of the three saws would be my recommendation.

Hi Tony and welcome to the forum.  Either saw will do you just fine.  They are the same saw.  Order you some decent blades.  Don't buy them from the hardware store.  FD Mike has a variety pack that will be a great start.  The blades really do make a difference in your work.  I'm Julie from Texas.  Glad to have you.

HI, Tony...Welcome from Missouri, USA.

Where do you call home?

The DeWalt or the Delta would be a great choice to start out.

Welcome Tony, One thing I will say about this forum is there is no shortage of help when you are in trouble. I have never been on any forum that has had so many friendly people on it and everyone of them willing to help someone who has a problem. I also agree with Julief, the blades make all the difference, I was using standard cheapie blades from local store and I couldn't follow a straight line let alone a curved one with them, I changed to the Flying Dutchman blades and my cutting improved immediately, they cut straight with no problem and stay sharper longer too, also the difference in price is negligable. Well worth the few extra pennies for these blades.
