Excellent Charlie. Can you explain how the scroll cutting was done?
-
I cut three 11 inch rings (3/4 inch thick) and glued them on top of each other. Sanded them flush with each other. Drew the designs INSIDE of the ring and cut. A little tricky since I had to rotate the ring as I cut.
-
Brilliant idea, I was wondering how you did it but forgot to ask.
Learned something new. You are really inventive.
David.

Really nice work Charlie...

Very nice job!! Thanks for showing how you cut the designs in the circumference. Very clever, I would have never thought of that and I doubt that I could do it on my De Walt saw anyway.
Size wise You got me beat by a full inch on height. I made a pitcher out of "Old growth Plywood" a few years ago that is only 12" tall...

That's a really cool idea.

Love it!! I love the way the knots line up to make a pattern. Is there a pattern for this vase I could use?
-
Charlie, you never cease to amaze me.

You two should open a 'gallery' together!
Both of those items are fantastic!

It is not really that hard to do. I think that Steve has a tute on his video section on how to make a vase.
I does require allot of sanding and you will use every sander and grit of paper you own, not to mention time. It is surprising how little wood is required unless you get really fancy and big or use glue-ups on your blank like the one on the right.....

That is beautiful!! I can't wait to see it when it's finished!!

two great projects from two great scrollers thanks Charlie and Roger for sharing your great talent.

I had another of those flashes! For those who don't have a spare lathe sitting around gathering dust. Make a turntable that you can fit the vase down snug over a spindle and hook it up to a small motor to power it, but not too small or it won't have enough power if you are doing heavy sanding. Would work similar to a potters wheel. Then you could sand the day lights out of it without all the hand sanding. Save elbow grease!
I hope someone benefits from this idea!

Gabby, that is not cut on a lathe. It is cut in rings and stacked.
-
I know Julie go back and read it again.
It's for someone who doesn't have a lathe!
