Hi Everyone.
I am having problems sticking patterns to my wood as spray glues affects my breathing, even when done outside. I've seen a stick repositionable glue on the internet, has anyone used it and does it work?
Thanks

Hi, Roy!
Lots of people use regular school glue sticks to stick their patterns on. I hear that it is quite effective. You could even put a layer of blue painters' tape on the wood first, and then stick the pattern to it with the glue stick. This will take the guesswork out of how much or if the pattern will come off cleanly or not. I am sure that others here will have advice too, but I would give that a try and see if that will help.
Good luck and let us know!

Use adhesive paper. much better, much simpler. A bit more expensive - but as the workflow is much simpler it also saves time&work& therefor also money.
Apply the adhesive paper on top of the tape, that makes it easy to rip it off after cutting.

I'm with Torsten on this one thats the same method i use.i gets the 8.5"x11" mailing labels at staples puts painters tape on the wood then the label, works great
-
I agree with Torsten. Go to Sloans website. They have it there, but first use blue painters tape on the wood then you patterne on that. It works. I do it all the time.

Same here. Saves time and mess. I often print multiple patterns per sheet to reduce the cost, but the cost is worth the result for me.

Thanks for your replies. Looks like I need to go shopping again......

I don't quite understand why using adhesive paper. You put painters tape on the wood and glue the pattern on top of that. For what reason using adhesive paper?

Useing adhesive paper you do not need any glue or spray adhesive. You put your blue painters tape on the wood an then just stick you pattern on to that. No spray, no fumes just peel an stick.

How about when the pattern is on clear paper already?

most of my patterns come from online sources or are scanned from a book Mike, so we just print them on to psa backed paper. It is repostionable and saves the mess and time that spray adhesives require.
-
Mike i use adhesive paper when i do portraits or anything delicate, the rest of the time i use blue tape & spray glue
-
I use regular school glue sticks, like Shelia mentioned. I started using glue sticks because winters here are too cold to do any outside spraying.
-
Another plus of using adhesive paper is that the pattern is attached much better. The pattern will not lift at all.
Also is the workflow better - you don't need to wait for the glue to dry or anything. When the adhesive is applied, you're ready to drill/saw.
-
I always use the blue painters tape and I usually use the spray adhesive but I also use the glue stick if I don't want to get spray on all of the wood. Both ways work equally as well.

What brand of glue sticks are the best / strongest? I bought some at a local store and they wouldn't hold 2 sheets of paper together or a stamp on an envelope!

I use adhesive paper too. Watch the internet for pricing deals - can often find it at much lower prices than anywhere else.
