I would like to find a source for low cost clock works and such. Right now I can buy a clock at the local Family Dollar cheaper than I can buy the movement. There must be cheaper places to get these items than the ones I have found. Can anyone help me here?

I have made many clocks with different sizes of clock inserts. I go to either www.klockit.com, www.clockparts.com or www.clockworks.com.
If they don't work for you, try a google search for clock inserts and you should be able to get what you need.

I don't know how cheap you feel you need to go but I just got a quartz movement which included the hands and a paper dial face for a little over $10 from woodcraft.

What I have been doing is going to a place here locally called the Family Dollar. They have clocks that they sell for 3-6 bucks with the quartz movements. I usually wait for them to go on sale and then make sure that they will fit the depth of my project and take out the clock, throw away the rest, then use them in my projects. I can get them from 2 to 3 bucks each. It is the inserts that are hard to find.
It seems to me if you can build a whole clock and send it here for 3 bucks, then there should be movements that could be sent here for a similar price. I have been to a Chinese site where in bulk they are much less than a buck, I hate to pay 10 bucks for something I know was bought for pennies. Over a thousand percent profit is out of line for me.
While shopping for Christmas I saw some clocks with inserts being sold at Bi-Mart. After Christmas I went and looked again and they were on sale for 3 bucks each. I bought them all.
Sometimes the shanks on the quartz movements are a bit short, so I have a fostner bit I use to shorten the depth of my workpiece.
Maybe this will help some others with ideas to get the same product for half the price.

What if 10+ members were to commit to buying 10+ inserts each of a commonly used unit, and have them sent to one address (unless a drop shipper can be found)?
By buying in lots of 100+ of one style insert, we should get a pretty good price break, even with the extra shipping to each buyer...
How large of an order was needed for that bulk order Rubicon Scroller?

I think we would need more than 10 of us. It was in Oct of 2008 that I ordered a hundred for myself, I had to have the credit card company get a refund for them. Before ordering from anyone I learned to do a search of their name and the word scam. I read about many people that were waiting for more than a year to get their clock parts. I went to China and found they sell them by the pallet. Dont remember the prices, it was not much for the clocks, it was getting them here that would be expensive.
I went to the Family Dollar today today and the regular price for clocks with quartz movements was 3 bucks. The stems seemed plenty long, but I do not need them right now. I bet they wonder when I come in and buy 2 dozen at a time.

I buy all my mini-clock inserts through wildwood designs out of Janesville Wis. Their about 200 miles from me, I can order on Monday, and have them by Wed. Their Website is www.wildwooddesigns.com. Dave

i havent built many clocks, but the few that i have built, i bought the movements through klockit.com.
