Was asked to make a sign for a friend who makes puppets. Usually, I make small desk top word art, baskets and portraits. This will be my largest project about 18" x 10". I cut a small one last night to see how it would look. Here's the results. Any thoughts on cutting something that large. Will be using 1/2" oak.
Thanks

I think it looks great! My only suggestion would be that you might be better off with maple or poplar than oak due to the open grain and brittle aspect of the oak, but then you may already have it on hand or it might have been part of the request. Either way the design looks good!

Or you could glue it to a backer to help keep it together.

I think it looks good too! The only problem you may have is the size of your saw throat. If you have a 21" saw, you will be OK. If you have a 16" throat, you will have to cut from one side, then from the other side. Either way, you should be able to cut it.

I think it looks good The wife told me to ask if She can have a copy of the pattern for me to cut and hang outside of my shop (no I don't make puppets)

Thanks for the kind words. Using Oak as that's what I have on hand. Going to glue it to a backer board to give it support and making ring 1/2" thick. Yes, it is my design.

Hey Woody, I really like your design, very whimsical feel and personally I like it the way it is without a backer, as long as you can keep strength from being an issue.
