I cut this eagle from one of those blanks you buy at Micheals. They are very soft but come out nice I think.

Very nice Crusty. Love the pattern.
I had found a place online of where to order the blanks/rounds (or what ever they are called) and now can't find it again. I did one project using one and would love to do more.

Very nice Crusty. Cutting on live edge slabs like that are fun to do .. The hardest part now will be to keep the bark on. A good varnish or the like will help a lot with that. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Is it maple? Hardly can't see any grain. Nice cut.

Nice cutting Crusty. I just found one of those in a drawer I was cleaning out in my shop. I am going to do something with it today.

Nice cutting. Looks very good. Thanks for sharing

Thanks all! The blank is basswood I believe, and as I work with it the loose bark comes off, but when I'm done a put a pretty heavy coat of clear Polycrylic. That seams to work well with keeping the bark in place

Beautiful.

I have done a couple of these also and really like the 'outdoorsy' look.
These are Basswood blanks and later I will hunt thru my catalogs and let you all know who all handles them. I know that I also have seen ads in the scrolling magazines for them.

As Crusty Said, you can get them at craft stores such as Micheal's.
-
You can also get them at Hobby Lobby. I got one and cut a Cheetah out of it a couple years ago. Really like the way it cut. Don't have any pictures of it but I'm working on getting some taken so I can post some of my projects.

awesome job. really nice

I have cut two projects on the Basswood before, they came out well but found it hard to get a nice edge to the cuts when sanding it. It is a light timber and is a good medium for pyrographers to use.

Turned out great.. I too like the rustic look... Sheila

I get mine in my back yard pine & hemlock, mostly pine.
Have them hanging on the shop rafters drying.
If you remember my butterfly was on one.
I love that Eagle fantastic job.
Thanks for sharing.

JP how long does it take to dry them ?? I am assuming you are just slicing them ??? Just cut down a couple of pines and have some more to go.
