Title: Argument with Mrs. Wife - suggestions for a apron?
Post by: tux_linux on July 06, 2011, 09:28:56 am
I got abused.
My Mrs. Wife is a little "displeased" because of how my shirts look when I return from the wood shop.
Well, I have to give into - she might be right. Most t-shirts have suffered...  :-\

I'm feeling a little to young for a apron. Any suggestions? what's your choice? should I bring her flowers & chocolate more often?

Torsten--I have the same problem--my Mrs finally made me an apron to wear in my shop--I also wear a pair of garden clogs so that I don't bring the mess upstairs--I think all of us married guys have this problem--Richard aka thumbs

Go for the flowers and chocolate!
Could you limit the number of shirts you wear in the shop and keep your nice ones nice?

I don't have a "Mrs. Wife" but wht I do is limit my work clothes to certain items and only those. I also make sure that I wash those items myself!

Suggest you go with candy, flowers and dinner out!

OK, thanks for your opinions.

Yeah, I try to use certain clothes for the dirty work - but I'm also often in the work shop in the evening "just finishing something" or so, and I don't change clothes then.

The point on the apron is that it reminds me of my former master back when I did my industrial training. He was rigorous and has learned me me quite some. I might get scared when I look down on me  ;D

I'll do a little research on the web. Oh, and I'll make up a dinner in our favorite restaurant  ;D ;D

OK, so there is hope:

zazzle.com (http://www.zazzle.com) shows some acceptable aprons:

Measure twice, cut onces (http://www.zazzle.com/measure_twice_cut_once_apron-154735643353806439)
100% Ninja (http://www.zazzle.com/100_percent_ninja_apron-154358067628908284)
Cut it out! (http://www.zazzle.com/wood_working_apron-154963425269679031)

and cafepress.com (http://www.cafepress.com) has also some related to scroll sawing and even more related to wood:

Trees fear me (http://www.cafepress.com/+trees_fear_me_apron,498861063)
You should see what I saw (http://www.cafepress.com/+you_should_see_what_i_saw_bbq_apron,176230119) - I really like that comment!

These are all BBQ aprons, but I think they will do.

I wear a lightweight cotton woodturners smock.

My wife made one for me, it  wraps around and ties in the back nothing to get caught in spinning machinery.

I like a dust cloak better then a apron because with an apron I still have dust (or finish) on the sleeves of my shirt.

I always want to have a  Leather apron  (http://www.mehr-als-werkzeug.de/product/707500/Leather-Apron/detail.jsf), but its to expensive for me.
($134)

Leather? I don't know. Should be quite heavy. Don't know if I want to wear that in the summer.

@ Charlie
Yeah! ;D But what if the wood bends at that look?

Harbor Freight had their welders leather aprons on sale a few months ago for $9
The only difference between  a welders and a woodworking apron is no lower pockets in the welders.
Works great and keeps my clothes cleaner.

Torsten Kill two birds with one stone get the apron but put a picture of your wife with her name or some other information such as that this way you can tell her she will always be in the shop with you and you can wear an Apron and not feel bad about it..

Hmmm Makes me wonder what you all  are doing in the shop! I just wear whatever I'm wearing and just brush the dust off before heading upstairs. Hubby's exercise clothes and lawn mowing clothes are a heck of a lot worse than my scrolling stuff. Of course, I am responsible for all the laundry...

It's not an issue for me. I make lots of nice things for my wife, and I do most of the laundry!

@ chacci
so you expect me to wear a speedo with a picture of my wife? you know what happens to the picture if the fabric flexes  :o ;D

I ordered the You should see what I saw (http://www.cafepress.de/+you_should_see_what_i_saw_bbq_apron,176230119) apron in khaki (I would say beige) yesterday.

I have an apron and a jacket (of course I don't use them both at the same time) and most of the time I wind up hanging them back up because they are cumbersome or get in the way, especially now with 100 degree temperatures in the shop.

Aw heck Wade borrow Torsten's speedo then run through the sprinkler like we did as kids!
Oh I forgot you have mosquitoes the size of 747's. LOL
Better scrap that idea.  ;D
