Title: Potpourri Boxes
Post by: dgman on June 30, 2011, 02:39:33 pm
Made from 3/8" and 1/4" Sapele and 1/4" Maple. Finish is my usual 50/50 BLO mix and a topcoat of semi gloss lacquer.
Pattern from the July 2011 issue of WOOD Magazine.

I think your take on the Potpourri Box is Outstanding.  Of course you have already left the impression on me that your in the ranks of Professionalism.
Just a question.  You use different cool looking Hardwoods in most of your projects.  Do you spend a arm and a leg in purchasing these woods?  To me from ordering Plywood from Sloans and their prices are fair I spend sometimes more than I can afford just to do things like portraits etc.  Nothing compared to your projects.  Anyway I am still new to attempting projects that require GOOD.  Loved looking at your box Dan....  Danny  :+}

Yes I do use interesting woods. Fortunately, being a member of a large woodworking club has it's advantages. We have a member who goes to local furniture shops and collects their scrap woods. He used to bring a pickup truck load of scrap to each meeting. Unfortunately, He has not brought any in several months. I still have some of it, but the pile is starting to get low. So when I have a project in mind, I go through the scrap pile until I find something I can use. It won't last to much longer though.

Beautiful, is all I can say. Like Danny, your choice of woods and finish is outstanding.

Must be nice to have access to free wood; Lucky you!!

Great Job, They're something I don't think I'll show my wife, I have enough to do at the present time. LOL
