This is the first thing I made from start to finish. I keep it hung up in my shop. It's from a tattoo pattern that I altered.
Do you have pictures of the first things you made?

The internet and digital cameras were not around when I started but my first projects were personalized Christmas ornaments that were dated. I sent them to family members in place of cards and had a new design each year.

I wish I had took pictures of some of my earlier work , too many years ago and back then the picture taken sure wasn't as good as it is now for sure ........you guys have some fine pictures here of pretty work .........Marshall

Cherie they look cute simple and effective

As I've mentioned before on here. I started out scrolling back in the mid 50's, and the following pictures are my very first project and the tools I used. Didn't know there was such a thing as an actual scroll saw as we know it today. My Dad showed me how to set things up and how to use them.

well the first things i made were a hideous mess seriously. sorry i have no pictures of that lol.

My first project was an Intarsia design. I used a 4 inch grinder and and lots of sandpaper. I am now hooked on the scroll saw. My first projects have been attempts at patterns graciously provided by Steve. I have nothing of merit yet to show but I am undaunted by that and will sally forth. Thank you Steve for your generosity and thank you Janet for the idea of using tattoos as patterns..

Here is a plaque Steve was kind enough to make a pattern for me. I also made one from his sight on girls volleyball for a grand daughter and wanted a diver for my grandson. Don't seem to have a pic of the volleyball plaque. Made this as one of my first projects on my Ryobi which I purchased to see if I would like scrolling.

This is the first thing I ever made. It was made in 1996. I still have it. It was dropped and broken once, but I was able to repair it to where now even I can't remember or find where it was broke before. Sorry the picture quality isn't the best.(http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/ss142/m_r_dxn/wood%20working%20album/Matt.jpg)

The first thing I made was from a pattern on Steve's website. It was a feather with a wolf in the center. It is around here somewhere but I can't put my hand on it right now. I do know I was hooked right away, though :)

here is my first salvageable scroll saw endeavor. After a few failures I got one that I could actually peal off the pattern and it looked like what I was hoping it would. Again, thanks Janet..for the tattoo idea.

That's pretty cool looking crash. I like dragonflies too. It looks like a tattoo.

I was a little kid in school, don't know what type of saw was used.
It's plywood. Somehow my mother kept it, as mothers do and it now hangs in my shop.
I then went on to become self-taught. Teaching girls woodworking at Girls Incorporated (girls club) and
still fooling around at 57 years old. Hope to still be doing this as long as some of the more senior members still are.

I'm like some of you other "Newbies" and don't have anything I'd be comfortable showing. I've only made one item so far, and that is just my dog's name, "Molly". Other than that I've just made lots of sawdust getting to know my saw and how to use it. Never did scrolling before, but believe I'm going to enjoy it. Good to be among so many folks, both old hands and new who share as you do.

This was the first thing I made when I started 8 months ago.

I hope this works, my pic were to big to attach, so I tried to put them on picasa web, so lets see if I can put the link in as Steve explained on his video. By the way these were not the first things I made but it's pretty close was the 3rd and 4th I think.

This clock is one of the fist things I made in 1985.No pattern I just made a drawing and built it.It brings back a lot of memories. My first wife and I had just purchased our first home with a big fenced in back yard for our daughters (6 and 3 yrs old) to play in and a nice garage for my wood shop, I mean her car.It was in that garage some of my first projects where made. She loved this clock and let me hang it in the living room. God rest her soul she left us in 1986 in an automobile accident.

I know most people start out on easy stuff but this is the first thing I ever cut. The motor cycle was hard because I didn't know all the little secrets of scrolling yet, took me forever.

I cut my daughter's name free hand. She still has it, and displays it on her desk. Dave :o

My earliest use for the scrollsaw was as a template making tool, which I would then use for reproducing items using a router, etc.
This is probably the oldest piece I still own that has some scrollsaw involvement, from about 1997. It involved 3 templates.
These days I spend more time using the scrollsaw for 'scrollsaw' projects, but it is still a great template making tool.
