This is all I had time for today. We have to get ready to leave first thing in the morning to go up to our place, Lake Arrowhead, CA.
The pattern shows the wood I plan to use, as of now. This may change as well as the pattern as I go.

Looking good so far Al!
-
Awesome...we get to follow along with another project!!!! I'm looking forward to see it progress. Thanks for sharing.
-
Al, I think your the best!
great to follow the step by step process of your work!
thanks for sharing it this way, I'm learning of it.
-
Looks awesome. :)

Hi Al. I have a question for you. Do you have, or know where I can get and intarsia plan for a 50's pickup truck?
-
This is going to be great...
Bruce ;D
-
Hi Crusty59, I don't have a 50's pickup pattern, but I think Mike @ wdkits2@comcast.net has posted pictures of a vintage truck, with WIP pictures. He might have a pattern for sale, You'd have to contact him.
The only truck pattern i have is a 34 Ford pickup, and I haven't had a chance to make the Intarsia from it yet.
-
Thanks Al, I love the older trucks, but someone asked me for the 50's. I've been searching and found a 53 ford pickup. It's a really nice intarsia piece. But I will contact Mike to see what we can do. Thanks again

We enjoyed the short time we had in the mountains, got a few things done that needed to be taken care of and now it?s back to the more fun stuff.
I was able to complete Mr. Fixit?s shirt, part of his belt and right arm, after going back and using a ?? shim to raise the arm a little higher to make room to add the pencil, as shown in the pattern. It may be cheating, but I?ll use a real pencil instead of making one, seeing as this Intarsia will be for my use.
I still have his left arm to cut and sand and then I?ll work of his pants. So far I?m satisfied with the way he?s turning out.

That is looking awesome I want one....lol
Keep up the great work I can't wait to see more
-
He sure is cute and loveable, makes you want to tweek his cheeks!
AND you have others of him to do, what a great idea.
I'm not usually into tweeking cheeks either!
Says "Macho Man" Gabby
LOL
-
I finished the man. While sanding the pants I didn't see one of the pieces fall out and after I noticed it, it took me quite a while to find it. The Piece had fallen behind one of the legs under the workbench; It had been cut on a slant so it would have been hard to replace without re-cutting half of the pants and shaping it all over again.
Tomorrow, if I get time, I'll start to Saw and Stand.
-
Al you were really lucky to find that small piece!
Looking great.

I love these things. I've tried to do some myself, but just haven't got the knack of it yet. Seeing the projects come together a little at time helps a lot. Thanks!
-
It's totally amazing how you can make the wood come to life.
-
That is so cute.. I admire you your patience and talent to do these... You amaze me with them... Thanks Sheila in Tx
-
That's looking amazing Al. I like the way you used the real pencil, it just kinda jumps out at you. Great job.

I finished the scrollsaw stand and will start the saw next. It'll probably be the most difficult part of the Intarsia because of all the small parts, but that's the area I enjoy most.
-
I can't remember ... is that a picture of Dan or of his saw ??? ;D ;D
-
great to see the progress.
it's awesome to look at. I wish I good do that.
I think these projects are over my head.
-
Wow that simplt looks AWESOME I can't wait to see more of it and I love it good work keep it going.
-
I can't remember ... is that a picture of Dan or of his saw ??? ;D ;D

Dan, are you sure it's your saw and not you ;)
Hahahaha

I don't know Marcel, I think Al's last picture looks more realistic!
-
I don't know what to say! :o
-
Marcel that is tooooo funny !!!!!!!!!!
-
I have the scrollsaw almost finished; I still have to wire-up the motor and add the nuts and bolts, but should be able to complete it and put the finish on the whole thing tomorrow.
I'll see how it looks on the shop cupboard doors and decide how much of the background to add, if any.
-
Absolutely amazing!
-
boy do I wish I had your talent...it is beutiful
-
Not only is your work amazing ... I can't believe how fast you do it ...
-
Al How tall is Mr. Fixit?
You mentioned using a real pencil in his hand, and the scale looks so good!
Gabby
-
I put his height on the very first picture I posted of the rough pattern. He's 15" tall, I usually make my Intarsias about 22" but I made this one to a scale that would fit the door I planned to mount it on.
I was going to use Canary wood to make the saw from, but after testing a sample it would have been a pretty sick looking "Big Yellow" so I went ahead and used Aspen and painted it. I didn't want to disappoint the DeWalt fans, lol
I was able to put the first couple of coats of spray on late this afternoon and will finish it up in the morning. I'll post a couple of different ways this Intarsia could be displayed.
-
When I looked at it the first time I was so interested in how you were going to cut it I didn't even notice the hight. :D

Boy, I have to visit more often :-[. I am missing out on some awesome pieces. This is a wonderful piece Al. ;)
-
I really like it, "the making of..." a Mr. Fixit.
It's cool to see and i can learn a few things of it.
You can do it more often Al, a making of.
Always good to see a progress of something.
Greetings Glenn, Belgium.

Al Looks super, I have been missing some great things this summer and fall.

Al, your creations are like a fine bottle of wine they increasingly get better with age. I am always awe struck each time I am able to view you latest art work. You are and continue to be an inspiration for me because as I witness your work I can see what is possible with skill and patience. If I ever reach a point when I am half as talented as you with one of my creations I will open that aged bottle of wine and savor both the taste and the view. I hope that you will continue on my friend and show us that your best work is yet to come for that will be truly amazing.
