Title: My Early Steam Train
Post by: Gabby on May 31, 2011, 02:22:04 am
I cut this some time back when first getting started I just wanted to share it so that y'all
know I really do make sawdust. It was my first attempt with my own pattern made from a photo.
I'm keeping it out of the kindling box to look back and see if I have improved or not.
I'm still wondering when summer is going to get here, GLOBAL WARMING MY a$$!
Gabby

Color is a little wonky the background is actually blue so you can see what happens without the flash.

Excellent cutting Gabby.  My Uncle would love that.  He has a room that is basically a model train setup a huge investment of time and effort and that cutting would fit the room nicely.  Thanks for sharing it with us.

Nice train. If you want to warm up come on down here and visit me in Texas. It has been in the 90's everyday and the humidity, well it will sure soak your clothing pretty quick.See ya soon. Bobby
PS  bring a few blades and I'll put you to work in the shop.  LOL

Great pattern, It looks good. Showed it to my wife and she loved it; her father owned a full size sight-seeing train that ran back and forth between two cities in mid Michigan.

Well done, Gabby.
Well, the heat came to Ontario yesterday.  With the humidex, it is 29 Celcius (38 C with the humidex) here in London now.  I love it--am riding my bike too and from work each day.  It's coming your way--someday :-))

I lived and worked in Texas back in the 70s, Little town of Comanche, at Croker's blacksmith and welding shop. Ken was the best boss I ever had, a drought however cut my tenure short. I'd have loved to stay but a guy has to eat. Eventually returned to Arizona and didn't leave until 1998 to move here to Oregon at retirement. Still miss the Southwest!

I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about, every one of us know just where to look for the flaws in our own creations. I've worked with metal, horn, leather and wood, and was never completely satisfied with the result. My wife is a quilter and feels the same way, and I would challenge any of you to find a flaw in her work, but they are there all though hard to find.
I of course started on the hardest part of this pattern, the wheels. Tried using a spiral, NOT GOOD.
The whole thing was a learning experience and I'm proud to have completed it that was a big challenge just to persevere.
Thanks for all the encouragement and kind words, I'll trying to live up to them.

Marion it is impossible for me to just say thanks! I find every day in this forum an education, in humor, compassion, instruction, and a shared passion to work with our hands and minds.
As GB says so well Huggzzz to all.

"Spoiled my act as a clown." Burl Ives. I wonder how many know who he was or the name of the song?

Little bitty tear..         also by Webb Pierce... haven't heard that song in years ....
Title: Re: My Early Steam Train, and reminiscences of country music added on!

Ives was my favorite version.
"A little bitty tear let me down, spoiled my act as a clown."
Webb Price, or Ray Price?
Ray had a great voice!
Marion
We're both dated for knowing songs like that.
Do you remember Eddy Arnold's Cattle Call? He was quite a Gentleman and had one of the all time best voices in country western singing.
I sure miss those great songs and singers.
Nothing like the True Western songs are heard on radio or wherever any more.
I think Marty Robbins was the last of them.
This should have been in the coffee shop but OH WELL...
Color me SAD

Now Teacher what would you say if one of your students asked you that question? D-
Since you owned up to it I'll give you a C+ for truthfulness.  ;D

Thanks for the nice comment on the train, the pattern is quite nice maybe some day I'll re-cut it just to see if I can do it better. I have some other train patterns that are much more detailed than that one that I'm hoping to cut after a while, but I'll sure use something a whole lot thinner next time!

Marion I screwed up on the names Price and Pierce and didn't see my mistake until I read it for the third time. Duh!! Part of getting old is my excuse, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
