Thanks to all the help from you guys and gals, I finished my first portrait, pattern from Wooden Teddy Bear. I stack cut 3 1/8"BB and cut with a FD #1rev. (wasn;t brave enough to try the spiral yet). Finished with LSO and spray gloss, and luan backer stained some type of dark oak. Frames from Michaels for 3.99 on-sale (Thanks Mrsn). Will be giving these as gifts at our annual fishing trip for opening day of trout season in the Easern Sierra's this weekend. ;D

Congratulations! that came out very nice. I like that you used a wood-tone backer.

good job

That was a hefty project for a first time portrait and you did a great job with it!
If you can do that with flat blades you sure don't need spirals!
But they do make it a bit easier and you don' wear out your saw table swinging the wood around!
Welcome to Portrait Cutters Anonymous!!!

Thanks to everyone for all the kind comments.
I gave them this past weekend, and they were a big hit. One of my buddies couldn't believe I actually made it, he kept waiting for me to tell him that I had bought it. I gave full credit to this forum for my success. Thanks again to all. :)

Nice work! That came out great!

Last year I was working on one very similar to this to give to my brother for his cabin. I had about it 2/3's cut when the saw snagged and destroyed the whole center area. I was disgusted. Didn't remember it until now. Glad you showed, I may give it another go. Thanks ;)

First, I am quite envious of your cutting ability and patience to complete such a task. Second, I am very envious of your fishing trip! It's people like you that make this forum what it is.

Wow, again, thanks for the kind comments.
@Iwilli...I could never have even attempted the cutting without all the support from the members here on this forum. Thanks for letting me be part of such a great group of peolpe. :)

CNLNC, I don't believe that! I believe that you always had the talent. You are just like many of us who just needed the encouragement to bring it out and run with it. I suspect that you will go on and create many beautiful pieces because there are many of us who believe that you can.
