I always wanted to try to do a portrait so this is it. First time using spiral blades also. Used a FD NS #1 on Baltic birch. Took a while to figure out the right combo with the spiral. Came to this conclusion. High tension, Slow feed rate and high speed. Also notice better control in I just keep my fingers on top of the material. Just a rookies observation. Should have taken the picture before putting it in the frame so i wouldn't have a reflection. Needed to get it done for tomorrow. Giving it for a fundraiser for a friend with cancer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Chris

Hey Chris, You did an excellent job on the cutting. Looks like you have mastered the spiral blades!
For my taste, I don't like the look of glass on a scroll sawn portrait. But that is just my opinion.

Great Start, Chris!
your combination is right on...fast saw, lots of tension and SLOOOOOW feed will do the trick. AND...blades are cheap so keep a sharp one in the saw at all times! The #2/0 will get you much finer lines for details.
I agree with Dan...portraits and most scroll work looks much better without the glass and I use a 'satin' finish spray just to keep the reflections to a minimum!
Ya done good there, Pilgrim!

Very nicely done, especially for your first portrait and first time using spiral blades. One of my next projects is to also attempt my first portrait using spirals. I can only hope mine turns out as nice as yours. Great job!!!. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, I had used felt for the background. Didn't have time to paint
anything black. So i figured it would keep the lint off. It probably would look better
without the glass.

Awesome job and you're going to fall in love with spirals. Who designed the pattern? I like it.

Great job. I usually do put glass on mine. I get a UV matte glass. It protects the wood and I don't want someone to try to dust it and damage the cutting.

very nice job,i use glass also to keep picky fingers from it.thanks for sharing

Very well done. I have yet to really try spiral blades. Some day, I guess.
