There is not allot of scrolling in this project but I had to share it with you. My son-in-law's (Clay) family has had a tradition of entering the babies in there family in the Strawberry Festival Baby Parade for over fifty years and have won numerous trophies.
So My daughter (Amber) and Clay came to me about four weeks ago and wanted me to help them build a float for Gage to enter in the baby parade. Amber had a theme she wanted to do so it was up to Clay and me to make it work. Amber did all the decorating, Clay and I did all the wood working. I did use the scroll saw to make the signs on the float.
Well this is what we came up with and Gage won 1st Place Saturday 03/12/2011.

FYI:
The rustic weathered look is what we wanted. Clay and I did not spend a penny on any of the wood, it is all recycled. The base of the float and the wheels, handle etc have been handed down for the last five or six years.
The barn is made from old pallets Clays father gathered from his work. The Cedar Shakes (shingles) I had left over from a construction job I did last year.
Fence posts are old shovel handles that I replaced and the fence is from an old bench they where going to throw away.
Amber spent all the money on decorations. LOL ::)

Russ, you the Man, or should I say, you the Grand-Man!
Awesome job, that is something your grandson will always look back on (in pictures of course) and think his grandpa is awesome. :)

Since I'm a country gal I love the theme of the float. What a wonderful project to be involved with. Great job and Gage is sure one cute looking fellow.

Nice work and wonderful memories for all involved (although Gage looks a little young to remember much of it!), even if it did contain a minimal amount of scrolling! Definitely worth a brag!!!!

congratulations.
A very good job of both (you and your daughter)
It appears that inherited your talent and maybe with time your grandson may have artistic talent like yours.

Russ, what better way to share that God given talent than for memorable moments such as this one. I think your story is very appropriate for this forum. Scroll sawing is so much more than just cutting wood. It's about generosity, friends and family...it's spiritual! We need many more stories such as this one.
