At the Tomb of the unknow soldier they are not allowed to ever take a break call in sick or abything like that they are guarding our most treasured secret....The book that tells that JFK was really killed by the man on the grassy knole LMAOOO!!!!
On a serious note I fell for the guys but it is an honor allowed only a select few soilders.

They men are hand picked and are a part of a veyr special group. They take an oath and stick to it. There was a story years ago about a very severe storm hitting DC and they secured the guard due to it. The guards refused and still manned their post.

I have been to Washington D.C. several times and make it a point to visit the The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. On several occassions I have been there to see the full ceremony of the changing of the guard. A powerful reminder even today of those who have given there lives for our freedom. :)
