Title: Wood Facts A Series Friday
Post by: Dawie on February 11, 2011, 03:17:47 pm
Talking about thickskinned :P
Redwood must sure have a reason for being so thickskinned(Thickbarked)
David

The tree specie with the thickest bark is the Redwood {Sequoia gigantean}, its bark can be up to 24 inches thick.

The tree specie with the thickest bark other than a Redwood {Sequoia gigantea}, is the Coast Douglas Fir tree {Pseudotsuga menziesii}. On the older trees, the bark can be 8 - 12 inches thick.

it is due to or thanks to this thickness that these trees can survive fire.
and all in proportions: this is worlds largest tree so a thick skin fits.
and David, as you learned us Thursday: a Dwarf Willow {Salix herbacea} would have a bit of trouble having a thick skin like that ::) 8)
