Here in my city do not work so narrow solid wood.
The only thing I could do is buy MDF veneer Okoume or pine veneer MDF I hit the center to give the thickness I need.
Unfortunately my work detract much because the edges of MDF are opaque can not find how to fix them.

is the detraction of the edges due to the saw cut or because of sanding?
did you try reversed blades or slower speed?

does not appear that as lower-resolution image is not well appreciated, the material is MDF veneer Okoume, although reversible 5r sawing, you can see the image either:
