I made this Intarsia for the Owner of a Metal Art Shop to hang on his office wall. 23" Dia.

Very nice Al. I bet that he liked it a lot.
-
Wow, Al. That's really nice. And really big too. :o
I really blows me away how you can make a pattern from just a photo and then execute it so well. The folds in the clothing in particular. I would mess that up six ways from Sunday. Very nice.

Wowsa that is absolutely awesome
-
Outstanding Al.
I have to ask, Do you use a program or do you draw it freehand?
-
Hi Al, this was an excellent work again. Nice wood you take, i like it.
-
Awesome job Al, I like it. Thanks for posting. :)
-
great job!! again a great piece of art.
-
Absolutely amazing Al. Great piece of art there. Wish you lived closer so I could get you to teach me the basics first hand. Have already got a pattern for the first piece I want to try my hand at.

dgman, I don't use a program or a drawn pattern, as I used to do years ago; All I do is enlarge a photo to the size I want the Intarsia to be and use it as the pattern. I print the photo out on normal 8.5" X 11" sheets of paper and tape them together, then I'll just use a marking pen to make any necessary changes. Working directly on the enlarged photo saves all the time it would take to make a pattern.
Hope this helps. Al

That sounds to easy Al! I will give it try.

I work in a machine shop so your welder portrayal hits close to home. Have you ever thought of creating an Intarsia Training Video? Seriously, your talent is rare and should be taught and preserved for generations to come. I know I would definitely be interested in a copy.

Louis, The short answer is ?No? I?ve never considered making an instructional Video; there are some very good books, videos/DVD?s and Kits, with everything required, available already, describing the steps and contouring methods required in making an Intarsia and I?m afraid anything I could add would be redundant.
However, I would be more than happy to try and answer, or offer advice, on any specific question you or anyone may have.

Al, I can understand your reluctance to entering that arena, but if there was ever anyone's talent to emulate then yours would be worthy. And I doubt that it would be redundant. I have observed others work, but the detail you capture in yours is quite unique. Thanks for your response!

My mind works in seriously strange ways. For the life of me I could not figure out how you were going to weld the intarsia pieces together. :) Some days I worry about myself.
Beautiful work.
