Title: Handy Clock

Patten by Steve Good.  Made from 3/4 Mahogany sealed with tung oil and top coated with semi gloss laquer.

Real nice DW and quick too, I certainly like the Hand one the best, not much taken with the dogs rear end. LOL.

Good job on the cutting DW.
I have a question. Obviously you cut this today, and you applied tung oil then top coated. What did you topcoat with, and doesn't the oil have to dry for several days before you topcoat?

Well Good questions.  I use a tung oil that is cut way down and does not take much time to dry to the touch.  Yes it is not totally set up but as long as it is not sticky when I pick it up I can top coat it with laquer.  The way I can do this is I coat the project with tung oil and let it soak in a while - 5 - 20 min or so then wipe it off and buff it a bit.  I let it sit in this condition generally a couple of hours then use Deft spray semi gloss or satin.  The laquer thinner helps it stick to the oiled wood.  So far I have not had any problem with the finish flaking off.  Tung oil does not evaporate like shelac or Laquer does to set up rather it reacts with light and air and hardens.  I believe that is why I can top coat so quickly with no problems.
