what wood do you most often use on your puzzles
-
Simple answer: BLO
I was told by an older gentleman a number of years back "A child wood have to eat the entire truck before the effects of BLO bothered them" Now I think eating the toy wood be a bigger problem than the BLO.

David,
BLO: Boiled Linseed Oil. 8)

The only wood I wouldn't use is tantalized as it has arsenic in it, as for finishes most oils are OK and as paint I use poster or acrylic apint

I think OP was asking what type of wood we use for making puzzles.
I use hardwoods, if they are going to be painted I use poplar.
-
I use maple for stained pieces, Aspen for painted pieces
-
I use what ever hardwood I have laying around. Mahogany, Walnut, Maple, Alder, poplar and cherry.
-
I would use plywood or what ever hard wood that suited me and finish it with anything I felt like using.
If it is for a child that might chew on it, I would NOT use walnut (some people are aleargic to it) and I would finish it with shellac as it is considered food safe for anything.

If it is going to be painted - I use pine or poplar. Any other hardwood with a pretty grain will do for the rest.

I make most of my puzzles from MDF and then paint them. If I want something special I see what is available in this neck of the woods.
Thanks guys now I at least know what BLO means and as it is have that on my shelf.
