If you guessed Buckeye you?re right. I guess it?s the burl of the tree.
Pics 3 & 4 may be somewhat harder to id. Study them before looking at the answer.

Did anyone guess Rosewood? This is the bud union of a wild rose I salvaged from a pile of brush in No. Virginia in the early 80s when I was stationed at the ?Puzzle Palace.? Hung it on a fence post for about a year and then cleaned it up, trimed it, sanded it, and finished it with several coats of varnish. We keep it on the hearth as a conservation piece.
Pic 5 is the third hardest wood there is (maybe some of you can tell us the first 2). Comes from the mountains of California and Mexico. The vase was a gift. The other piece is natural, I just finished it. Also on the hearth as a conservation piece I?m no turner. Have any of you turners put something like this on a lathe?

Yes, it?s Manzanita wood. Really a pretty wood.

I guessed the Manzanita wood as my Mountain property is full of it.

i would say the second one is a petrified heart out of BIGFOOT

I got them all wrong, but it was fun looking at them. Thanks Chase

I like termite's answer!
-
Although I liked Termite's answer, I believe that's actually the heart of a Scottish Wood Golem.
