for about 3 hours this afternoon.
Stopped to move to another blade hole, set the tension and stepped on the switch....NOTHING!
Checked the plug - OK. Checked the foot switch - OK.
Then I checked the FUSE - BLOWN!
Was not putting any strain on the saw, cruising along and letting the blade do its thing.
So I am now dead in the water until I go pick up a pack of 3AG fuses.
Bummer...only had two cuts to go to finish the project! Double Bummer!
Will pick up a box of fuses in the a.m. and have spares on hand!
Just a warning to everyone with a DW 788...get yourself some spare fuses before it happens to you.

Sounds like it's Miller Time!

It pays to talk to your neighbors!
I was taking out the trash, stopped to talk to the neighbor. He asked what I was making all afternoon and I told him about my blown fuse.
He is a member of a 'classic car club' and owns a pristine '66 Chevy of which he is the original owner!
We went over to his garage and found a whole box of AGC 3 fuses!!!
Up and Running again!
Now I wonder what caused the Blow-Out in the first place but at least I have spares now.

That's a good idea, Graybeard. Better to have a spare on hand for when you need it. Do you get them at the hardware store? I don't think I've ever bought a fuse in my life.
-
Oh, Mr. Kotter, I know the answer!
...pause for laughter from those in my age group...
A fuse of that size will break down over time, even with just a small amount of vibration. The odds are that it had nothing to do with the load, but the weak fuse went poof when you applied power.
Bill - who installed alarm systems back before his hair turned gray.
-
Becky, You can get fuses at the hardware store or an auto parts store.
-
Thanks, Dan.

Hey GB, if it happens again you may want to take a look at the motor brush. If it's worn badly the motor will draw more current and possibly blow the fuse. It's item 117 in the Dewalt DW788 parts list.

GB's saw is only a few months old! I don't think the brush's are worn out yet! Heck, my old DeWalt saw was over ten years old when it wore out, but the brush's where still good!
-
It could be dust in the switch GB I would check it out either that or dust in some part on the electrics, I have had saws and other power tools stop for no reason and that is why

It ain't broke now... so don't "fix" it. ha!

Speaking of neighbors, I had the opportunity to help mine out today, he knows I am a computer/electronics geek, he saw me in the garage and asked if I had a spare computer cable, I said sure do - here ya go. He wanted to give me money, but I refused, just said that's what neighbor's are for :-) I also re-soldered a connector on his pedal board for his amp.

My good deed for the day was for a truck driver. He was making a hard right and I stayed back so he could use the lefthand lane to turn. Not much but I got a wave. ;D
-
My good deed for today was.....I left everyone in the world alone in their own peace and quiet......EXCEPT FOR YOU!!!!!!
:D :D :D :D :D :D

Or you know what it could be GB. Gremlins. They came though the Internet from Steve's computer, right into yours and jumped into your saw.. The forum is spreading them. Watch out. ::) LOL
-
Well after I replaced the FUSE I finished my project and started on another so I guess the 'GREMLIN' has moved on!
Everybody who reads this forum...."Watch Out! They are out there and the MULTIPLY!"

Hey GB, I'm a firm believer of Murphy's laws, but not gremlins! ::)
-
I just broke a blade. Oh well... plenty more where that came from!
Actually it didn't break. It came detached at the bottom. Of course though since the scroll is running it bends it. I might bend it back though and use it some more... it was a spiral.
-
Don't Do IT!!!
It will surely break at the bend if you try to re-use it!!! and then it may stab you in the back of the hand!

What?! Another possible hand wound?! :o :o :o
Speaking of which... my surgery is Monday at like 2pm-ish. I can't wait to offload this thing.

Hoping everything goes well and solves your problem.

You just don't want to hear me complaining. ;) :P ;D
-
Nothing worse then a complaining woman! ;D
2:00 pm is 11:00 am my time. I will be thinking about all the fun you will be having!
I know all will be OK!
-
Janet, I hope the surgery goes well and you recover fast. :)
-
Janet, I hope all went well today. The flower is pretty but your smile is better! :)
-
Goes well I mean, just looked at the time again. :-\ Will pray for you! :) Get well!
-
Janet, hope all goes well with the surgery and that you heal quickly. And I agree that the new picture of a flower is pretty, but I miss the smiling face!
-
Best wishes for an instant cure for you dangling ganglia..And a rapid and full recovery!
-
Janet, it's good to see your smiling face is back!
