Just finished this box its for my daughter inlaw for xmas.......Paul ;D

That came out absolutely beautiful.  She will be pleased on Christmas day.

Hi Sheila, It is Sapele an african hardwood with just one coat of danish oil, Hardwoods are expensive here in the uk but I found a place that was selling banister rails made from sapele for ?1.60 (2.5$) each 30"x1 1/2"x1" so I just resaw them and glue up into sheets.....Paul :)
Is that stained maple?  It is simply beautiful!

Great job, and I learned a little tidbit I was unaware of before.  I did not know you were from the UK Paul.

Gosh it would be nice if more folks would update their profiles and indicate where they are located.  Some forums it shows up under their names, I think here we have to view their profile page.

Nice boxs Paul, Try the second hand places for old furniture I have picked up some good wood from these places in the form of furniture bed ends are normally cheapas well
