Title: Hunting
Post by: Judy Hunter on September 22, 2010, 02:41:55 pm
Autumn is here in North Dakota. Every morning I go hunting....SLUGS!!
they have taken over so all my plants look like lace.  Every day I drop 100's of them into a container of vinager and watch them squirm and die.  Do you suppose PITA will be after me??  ;D

Collect them, put in a bucket of manure and then ship them off to PETA for eternal care!

My theory of "Gun Control".....

"Hitting what I am aiming at! That is Gun Control"

One way to control slugs is to take a pie pan and bury it with the rim level with the ground, pour in a can of beer at sunset. Go out the next morning and empty out the dead slugs. At least you will know that they died happy.

Get the left over beer from a local bar put it into some tin cans dig them into your soil around your plants and you wont be looking for them in the morning they will be in the beer

Ye they love beer. That's the only thing I use, have tried everything else.A friend suggested I put little speaker boxes next to the beer and play german music so the slugs can have a beer feast before they die.

Not sure what you mean by PITA Judy but down under it means [pain in the arse] thats if I may so say and that is not rude in my part of the world
Jimbo
SLUG BAIT is the only way to go, beer is far to good

I don't want to waste beer on the little buggers. What is slug bait??
I "harvested" about 300 yesterday. I have asphalt shingles layed out, water melon hides, and plastic bowls turned upside down.  Winter is coming. that ought to slow them down.

The beer would be left over beer or slops not out of a bottle . The bars would just through it away so why not put it to good use

It's PETA, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals, and they truly are a pain!!! Mostly just like to take in donations and get lots of publicity.
Get those slugs anyway you can! Wish the beer would keep the deer out of my plants.

You buy slug and snail baits from the garden shop they come in pellet form, it cleans them out quick time

Jimbo is right, if you don't want to use beer (although it does work) you can buy slug bait at a nursery, I think it is more expensive then beer though and if it rains you have to reapply. Hey Pat B, I heard if you go to a barber or hairdresser and ask for them to save you some hair, and then sprinkle some around your plants it is supposed to keep deer away. I have never tried it though.
