Title: First Cut
Post by: WigWag Workshop on September 19, 2010, 07:12:35 pm
Good Evening Folks!

First of all, I want to say a big thanks to everyone that has taken the time to answer all my questions, you have been very helpful in getting me started on the right path in this wonderful and addicting hobby.

Well I made my first cut - It didn't turn out well at all.  Don't get me wrong, it did come out better than expected.  I have documented, my mistakes, and will learn from them. Ignore the touch up on the tail, I did that in MS Paint, the blade got a way from me.  Also, I used the cheap blade that came with the saw, for my next cut I will install one of the FD blades I purchased.

Awww, Steven!  It is cool!  You should paint it black, put an orange ribbon on its neck and you have a really cool and nifty Halloween decoration.  I think it is a FINE effort!  Keep on 'a cuttin'  Practice makes better!

Thanks for sharing with us, Sheila :)

A little sandpaper and paint and Sheila's right - an orange ribbon - Happy Halloween.  Great first effort.  Keep em coming.

Also you mentioned the blade that came with the saw.  A good blade will make a world of difference.

Not that bad at all! Make sure you keep it so that a year from now you can cut it again and compare. I have my first piece hanging in the shop.

I'm late in getting here to answer but I agree with the others that it's a good first cut.  Better than my first one for sure.  I bet you won't have to wait a full year for comparison purposes though.  I'm at about 10 months myself but at even about 6-7 months I was doing things I thought I would never be able to do when I started.  I expect you'll experience something similar if you keep at it.

Nice first cut there, my first cut was an alphabet letter which I threw away. If mine looked like this I would kept it. LOve to see what you make in future.

This is WEIRD!
I did the same 'cat' for my first cut and it looked pretty much like that.

The encouragement of the folks here has spurred me to attempt things in the last 5 months that I only DREAMED I would ever be able to accomplish.

Without this group I would still be making nothing but acorn shaped suet feeders for woodpeckers.
