What happens if you do not put a finish over BLO?

I think he means Boiled Linseed Oil.  8)

Nothing! But it will be dull. For me having a top coat on my project looks "Finished" and a little more professional. I don't like my projects to shinny, so I use a semi-gloss lacquer.
