Title: Made the Purchase!
Post by: WigWag Workshop on September 06, 2010, 03:17:21 pm
Good Day Folks!

Well, I decided to take the plunge and get the Dewalt-DW788, I just ordered it from Grizzly.com. Can't wait for it to get here. I was going to get the Porter-Cable from Lowes, but AmazingKevin pointed out the sweet deal on the Dewalt. My lady is actually buying it for me, well 1/2 of it.

Thanks for listening,

Steve

You will love  your new saw. I have had mine for 10 years with no problems.
One caution. Do not over tighten your blade clamps. I worked at woodcraft and have had a lot of people come in with bent blade clamps. Clean new blades before use and tighten finger tight only. If blade slips rough the ends with sandpaper.

Yep... you'll love ol' yeller!  I got mine from Grizzly also... no problems.

Do yourself another favor though and order the foot pedal from Harbor Freight... it's cheap and it'll save the switch.

Congrats!  When I took the plunge into buying the DeWalt I wasn't sure about the $$ I spent...then I got the saw and have not looked back.  It's awesome...my favorite and best tool I own.  Get a foot switch, find a comfortable chair and watch the time pass by and the saw dust fly!

Hope you enjoy it!!

Steve, You will never regret buying quality.  I'm teaching someone on a porter cable and although it is a decent starter saw, there are things that will limit you.  Your choice in the 788 was an excellent one.  I have an EX21 and have never regreted spending the extra $$$ for it.

Congratulations, I am sure you will like it. Glad you talked your wife into helping pay for it. You will have to make something for her.  8)

Have not received an E-mail that it was shipped yet, but their site states, usually ships by noon.  I ordered it on Monday (holiday).  I am thinking (hoping) it will be here by Friday.

You are going to love that saw!  I started with a KMart Benchmade then a Dremel & I was ready to quit scrolling until I got the 788.  I would advise magnifier light, Jim Dandy lift, & a footswitch right off the bat.

Please ignore the tears, I don't have a Dewalt, would like one but am using a Dremel til I can earn enough to buy one, that is a prerequisite I set for myself, but go ahead - build yours up, someday I'll have one!! ;) ;) ;)

Congratulations!  You are in for a treat.  Others here have mentioned some good add ons that make even more enjoyable.  Be sure to show us your first project.

Happy Scrolling

Thank you very much for the those suggestions, I plan on stopping by Big Lots and see if they have any more foot-switches in stock (another member suggested to check there) I have a nice magnifier light, that I use for my other hobbies (Model Building, and Soldering Projects) however, will most likely get a dedicated one for the saw. I will look into the Jim Dandy lift.

I believe Harbor Freight also sells a footswitch & you can use a chunck of wood for a lift until you find a Jim Dandy.
