I have made several triple tea-light holders. On one of them one of the joints is less than perfect with a gap of about 1mm. I will be staining these and need to know the best filler to use on the offending joint.

I have used 'sawdust' (almost a powder) and wood glue.
Durham's Wood Filler is very good also.

I agree with GB for the most part but, I have found the mixture of sawdust and clear shellac insted of glue gets a better color match. It also will accept some stain and almost any finish somewhat better.
I have used some stuff called "Stain Putty" also.It is a powder that can be mixed with stain, water or varnish. I got it a my local ACE hardware store.

I use wood dust and wood glue but it tends to go very dark, if you want a rapid repair fill the crevasse with wood dust and then use super glue, then more dust on top to harden the glue quickly

using the same wood , cut a thin slice and sand it down by hand til it fits.you basically making your own veneer.it's a lot easier than it sounds.i've done it plenty of times working at kittinger furniture.

I agree with scrollsaw. I have taken my hand planer on a piece of matching wood and cut a sliver. Put it in the joint with a little glue and sand. Works great. 8)
