Title: Did my first bevel sawing ever
Post by: Dawie on September 04, 2010, 03:58:58 pm
Today I decided to try this. I have been putting it off long enough. With some trial and error I figured that it's best to use flat blades for the job. Unless I am doing something terribly wrong with spirals the pieces keep dropping out both ends even when the table is tilted past 10. I made the nativity scene Steve posted a while back still need to tidy it up, once I've done that I will post pic in brag. I am glad I did it and am already thinking of how to use this futher.

Yeah.... Flat blades work the best.  :)  Now you can get into making bowls. They're relatively easy and you can makes them out of patterns that you can't make on a lathe.

Yes flat blades are a must when doing bevel cuts. It is all a learning process. Trial and error.  8)

Congratulations, Dawie!  It always feel great to accomplish a whole new thing, doesn't it?

You might want to check out Steve's video(s) and patterns using the beveled cuts to make inlays.

Congrats on your first project!  I love cutting spiral bowls and have recently started making solid bowls.  I'm lucky because my table does not tilt, my head does.  It makes it a lot easier.
