Title: Where do I start if I want to build a website?

I have been thinking about making  my own website, but honestly don't know the first thing about it, I checked some sites on the net but honestly some of the terms they use go way beyond me. Maybe I am just searching in the wrong places. Can anybody direct me? I am low on chase so it will have to be something cheap or free. Any ides or tips will help. Thanks .

David, I need more information for a correct answer.
what kind of website do you want to build?
do you want your own URL or will you host it with your internet provider?
do you want a webshop for selling your work?
just showing some of your work wil be possible with picassa or flickr.
for building with a tool i like to use jalbum (free)

or do you realy want to build it in HTML code? if so there are lot of tools to help you.
so, what do you need/want? tell me and i will help you.

Hoi Marcel,
That's just the problem, I'm not sure what I need as URL and hosting etc are terms I have heard but what they mean  ???.
I will tell I you what I would like it to do/be.
I want a place to show my work, at the moment I am not looking at selling yet, but that is in the back of my mind for the future.
I do not like picassa, had some trouble with it in the past, maybe it was me, but I had the feeling that Picassa was taking over all my pictures, did not like that.
I would like to be abe to give it my own chosen name.
As you can see I know really nothing about this whole website thingy.

If you initially just want to show off your pictures I would suggest one of the Free Photo Sharing Sites.

Do a Google search for : <Photos, sharing, free> and look at some of the sites that will pop up.

Photobucket, Image shack, etc.

Look them over, even register and try them out, you don't have to stay with any one in particular until you decide.

I use a free web hosting site.
www.webs.com (http://www.webs.com)

Cherie told me about it. If you compare our sites you'll notice cherie's doesn't have the word "webs" in her site name. That's because she bought her domain name and I did not.

This site you can also do a store. I'm not sure if that would cost or not. I don't pay for anything to do with mine.
