At the base of my index finger but toward the thumb side, I have what looks like a tic tac under my skin. The doctor saw it about 2 weeks ago and said, "We'll keep an eye on it." Well, my eye has watched it get more sore and a little bigger. So, the doctor is going to cut it out tomorrow. She's thinking maybe it's a piece of wood in there.
I'm so proud. I feel like an electrician apprentice that got their first shock. ;D
Of course, if it's not wood, I'm going to feel like an idiot. :-\
-
Hmmm, I wonder where you could have possibly gotten a piece of wood in there ??? ;D
Good luck. hope it feels better soon.
-
I will go you one better, Janet!
This morning I had my wrist x-rayed because of persistent pain. (probably arthritis per Dr.).
When the xray tech brought the xrays into the examining room she asked me how I got the piece of metal in my arm!
My reply, "What????"
She pointed to a small white dot on the xray and said, "That is a piece of metal embedded in your flesh. Did you have a BB gun duel when you were a kid or is it recent?"
I have absolutely no idea when, where, how it got there but it is definitely there.
The Dr. said, "Does it ever bother you?" I replied, "No". He said, "Until it does leave it alone!"
Now I can't stop rubbing the darn thing!

Janet, GB - Don't remove them, they are tracking devices so when the mothership returns it will know where to find you, all scrollers have them, we are very special (interstellarly speaking) to them
-
Yeah Janet and GB, I wasn't going to say anything buy yguy is right! Don't remove it or they will never find you!!! :o :o :o
-
Depends on how many board foot ya got in there. Ya might be able to scroll a keepsake out of it, especially if it has good grain to it.

I hope all goes well with the procedure, Janet. Seems like you'd have noticed embedding a piece of wood in your finger. Even if it was just a splinter, you'd think it would have at least been an irritation.
Be sure to let us know what it is - you know - size, species and all that! ;)
Hey, GrayBeard, does rubbing the BB at least take your mind off the arthritis? I'm taking it on faith that no genie has popped out of your arm from the rubbing. I'm sure you'd have mentioned that. ;D
-
Janet-my wife had something similar once that turned out to be a rose thorn which had become infested in her knuckle. Turned out fine. Good luck!
-
Hi Janet, good luck. We will help the mothership find you don't worry :P. And we can never loose you GB, all we will need is a metal detector to find you now ;D.
As for me I have a big hole in the back of my mouth, had a tooth cut out yesterday and no it was not made of wood, did not even have metal in it.
have a great day out there.

Janet the human wood tree, free wood all round.
If it is removed are you going to bottle it or plant it????

I think it is a good possibility it's a piece of wood. Let us know how it goes. 8)

NO genie so far! Seems to be permanent so must be the tracking device!
[who believes in genies at my age?]
Janet...Good Luck with the 'removal'!

Doc couldn't find anything in there. The numbing hurt like heck. It felt like she was setting my hand on fire and i had to stop myself from hurting her. But, in the end, nothing to be found. I told her my alien implant theory. She said maybe it sensed the security breach and self destructed. :D
-
Well it is the aliens loss. Too bad you had all thgat pain for noithing. Is the bumps still there then?
-
Janet, we warned you not to do it! Now the aliens will be ticked off. :o :o
-
Well Janet...having had MORE than my share of cuts on my hands and more stitches than I care to count I knew that was going to happen but didn't want you to be alarmed before you went in.
Anytime they stick a needle in your hand it hurts like hell! All the nerves we need for 'feeling' are close to the surface and there is nothing they can do but hang on to your hand and jab away.
Glad it is not something that was or would become infected.
Keep your hand elevated as much as you can tonight and the pain will be gone by morning.

Pleased you are not growing into a tree Janet as you look great the way you are, I just hope she hasn't pushed the splinter deeper, they normally come out by them selveves if you put a plaster on them

I did the stitches thing a couple of years ago too. Hurt like the very devil when they injected it. Doc told me to get my pain pills on the way home and then take one with a beer and go to bed! I like that guy. ;D
What has me curious is where did the tic tac sized lump go? How did it just disappear? Or is it still there?
Graybeard is right. Keep it elevated. Mine hurt like heck the next day (in spite of the pain pills) but elevating it seemed to help some. And my best tip of all is to not forget it's hurt when it starts feeling better. I casually reached out to flip on a light switch with my finger a few days later and it was not a happy experience!
-
My gosh this sounds like a real bad thing, pills beer, oops beer that sounds good the best pain killer around.
Janet I am really sorry you are in so much pain and it is naughty of me to make such a joke of it, I do know what it is like to have wooden splinters I worked in a timber mill when I was a lad of 15 so I have had a few, there was no simpathy I can tell you, that was what they used to call the good old days 1955
get well so I can give you some more cheek

beam her up SCOTTY and get a 2nd opinion from the mother ship.
-
Hope your hand heals soon.

So all that for nothing. Hope the bump has gone to.

I knew it was going to hurt like heck going in. I too have had my share of hand stitches... me and kitchen knives don't get along. In fact, the same doctor just stitched up a finger last year. After it was numb though, I didn't feel a thing... and haven't since. My doc is amazed cuz I always watch. I dig watching stuff like that. Maybe I should have went to med school. ;D
I really don't know what the tic tac looks like now cuz every time I take the darn bandage off it starts bleeding again cuz it sticks. Hard to tell what it's going to look like yet.
-
Hope it gets better soon. Having a BOO-BOO is the pits. I usually doctor myself. But I'm like you I like to watch.
-
Hows the finger doing Janet. ??? ??? ???
-
Worse. It just won't heal and bleeds alot. I get sick of wearing bandaids.
Today I went to a surgeon... it's a pyogenic granuloma. Doc said it may have been from a splinter... or an injury. I get it surgically removed on 10/4.
Here's info on the pyogenic granuloma if anyone is interested. I'd post pictures but someone might have just eaten. ;)

It's not as gross as I expected after reading that warning. Kind of like the blood blister from hell, huh?
I hope the procedure goes well.
-
"blood blister from hell" you got that right. "pyogenic granuloma" Never heard of it before. Hope it gets better and the procedure works. :)
-
wish you a speedy recovery :)
-
Never heard of anything like that. Hope it all goes well. Keep us posted.
-
does it still hurts?
hopefully everyting goes well and in one time.
Then in a couple of weeks you are rid of it.
-
It doesn't hurt at all. It just looks like it does and it's a royal pain in the butt. I wonder if I should start wearing gloves when I scroll.
-
Sounds like a good idea. You won't know untill you try it and see if it works. :)
-
maybe a good way to prevent that it gets inflamed.
