Since Steve is out of commission, I'll ask you. What do you think about a Christmas ornament exchange between the members or something like that. I would not have any idea how to organize this but I bet someone on here would love to do it.
What do you think?
-
I think that would be a great idea. I have partook in a few in other forums. I have no idea how to organize it either. I am in if he decides to do one.
-
Count me in too
-
I am not sure I understand. Are you talking about participants making ornaments and then having a name drawn from random and then you mail that person an ornament/gift? 8)
-
That sounds about right.
And Russ would make a much better "Santa" than I since I have gotten too thin.
I'm In ! ! !

I don?t know how you want to do this, but it sounds good to me.

Haven't got a clue how it's suppose to work, but sounds like a fun idea. So count me in.
David

Yes Russ, the way you said it is the way it works. The moderators would be in charge of collecting the names of participants then figuring out what who will get whose name. But we need to make sure these are people that are willing to do this and not leave anyone out. This is sort of the format other forums use. I guess you can let me know if I can help somehow.
This way we get to see each others work up close and personal. Also get to say "hey I got a present from New Zealand". LOL.
-
Count me in but you should know I have never made an ornament.
-
Sounds like fun to me.

I have being searching but can''t find a site in english quickly, but you get the idea.
maby anyone knows a site like this in english?
-
Sounds like fun! I'm in.
-
Are we going to do this? If so we need to get the names in so the ornaments can be made and shipped in time.
-
Well Kevin, Doesn't look like anyone has volunteered to organize it.
I think it would fun though.
-
This sounds like fun. There is still plenty of time for exchanging names. I am sure someone who is good at that kind of stuff will step up. I am going to start thinking of what I can make.

Steve will be back folks, we can ask him ;) I'm in.
-
I don't have a problem with doing it or organizing it. I wanted to get a feel of how many people want to do it by the posts and run it by Steve first. We have plenty of time, still one more week left in August. I will get back with you. 8)
-
I'm in, Sounds like fun, I am just not sure how it all works, where do we mail the ornament to, how do we get a name.
Mark
-
Well, that's where the organizing comes in!
-
Here is a plan that may work.
1. Email you name and address to organizer.
2. Make your ornament.
3. Organizer confirms you are in by sending you a name on the list.
4. You confirm by email that you have received the name and address
and will mail your ornament by a cut off date.
5. Organizer marks off that name.
6. You send the ornament directly to the name and address you receive.
7. Everyone is happy?.
Ron
-
Looks good Ron, when are you going to start organizing?
-
Count me in too.
-
I have notified Steve and am waiting for his thoughts and approval. I really don't think he will have a problem with it. While I am waiting to hear from him I will be creating a plan. ChaplainRons plans is basically how it will work. Soon as I get the OK we will be on our way. 8)
-
Way to go Russ. You are the man.... I look forward to finding out who I get to send my one of a kind yet to be designed ornament...
Ron
-
OK ,,,Steve has given his approval, so we can go forward. As far as the process of selecting/exchanging names I think I have that figured out. My feelings are we need to keep the patterns at a level so that everyone can participate. The thought I have is about a selection of patterns to choose from, but that might hurt the individuals creativity. We really need to make it so that everyone from beginner to expert can participate, and no one feels intimidated. So suggestions about the pattern choice or any other suggestions will be appreciated. 8)
-
Hey Russ, I think as long as the ornaments are restricted to something that can be hung on a christmas tree, let everyone choose their own pattern. I would be honored to receive a simple ornament from a beginner. As we have seen by many of the photos from beginners, simple can be beautiful. No one should be intimidated by their level of expertice - we are all learning, just at different levels.
-
I'm with Julie...like in Poker..."Cutter's Choice".
A simple star would mean as much to me from someone as an intricate cutting of the manger scene!
AND...I would welcome something from a Non-Christian Friend/member just as much!
The idea is we are sharing yet another thing with each other! And who knows what might develop, a lasting friendship at the very minimum!

What they said! I'd rather do something unique to give, but I'd be happy with receiving about anything. It's more about the giving than the receiving. That's the idea behind the Holiday anyway.
-
I agree with the idea that everybody should be able to take part. And as said simple can be very beautiful. It's the idea that counts, just that somebody here made it means enough to me. That somebody took the trouble to make it and mail it via snail mail.
Waiting to hear how we are going to do this futher.
David
-
I agree, It's about giving, not receiving. Beginners should not be intimidated. It's about sharing your goodwill, not a talent contest!
-
Having some default patterns is a great idea. That way everyone can participate. But don't limit the creative abilities. If someone wishes to cut the last supper on an ornament and can do it I am sure the person receiving it would be tickled pink.
Exchanging hand made things like this with others that enjoy this craft is what makes it special. Too bad we can't do it in person.
Ron
-
Hey Ron I suppose we could, but man that would be expensive!! :o :o
-
I think this is fantastic. I can't wait to get started. I like the default pattern idea, that way we could choose from them, or if the person felt comfortable enough they could design there own.
Mark

Do we have a Travel Agent in the group?
Maybe they could get us a real cheap rate on flights to "Chaplain Ron's" place for the exchange!
Sure hope you have lots of room Ron!
Seriously Folks....I feel the thought, time and effort means a lot more to most of us than the 'intricacy' of the actual gift.
Just knowing it was made specifically for me and having a 'special present' to open at the appointed time is already getting me excited!
Russ, get your Red Suit cleaned and pressed!!!
~~~GrayBeard~~~
-
Russ will have to borrow your beard GB to go with the red suit.
