Title: Corian Scroll Saw Shell
Post by: ALWAYS SCROLLING on December 14, 2015, 04:45:53 pm
I wanted to take the Shell making to a different level. This one is made of White Jasmine Corian. Corian comes in 1/2" sheets so I had to glue 3 pieces together to obtain the thickness needed to get the proper angle of the wedges. Ended up with 5 wedges and 63 segments in this Shell. This shell has almost 3 curves inside the shell. A lot of fun to design and cut with much sanding to get the final result. The surfaces are wet sanded from 1500 to 12000 grit to get the shine and smooth surface.
Thanks for looking.

That is several steps forward and classifies as an art piece.  Congrats.

Very nice Ron. It must have taken many hours to cut and sand your creation. Well done.

Very nicely done.  I don't like sanding enough to try that but enjoy seeing the work of others.

Superb Ron!   I have been making Intarsia's from Corian (see Intarsia group on here) and love how nice it cuts and the strength in very thin parts.
I have been experimenting with polishing Corian and so far I have found Solvol  Autosol car chrome polish works very well with a buffing wheel also Brasso works well for dark colours.
Keep up the great work

May try using something for polishing. I have been wet sanding starting at 1500 grit and going to 12000 grit. It works very well.
Thanks for looking.
