I don't know about other cities but in the St. Louis Metro area it seems like EVERYONE has a Sears/Craftsman Scroll Saw for sale!
~~~GrayBeard~~~
-
Hey GrayBeard, so what does that tell you about Sears/Craftsman?
-
I started with an "inherited" one!
Identical to the Hitachi CW40
Wanna Buy It????
-
No thanks, I'm trying to cut down.
-
Graybeard I see a lot of the Craftsman saws forsale in San Diego as well. They must be garbage.
-
Sheesh! The only thing I saw on the Tucson Craig's List was one Craftsman scrollsaw for $20.
-
Eclipsescroller....here in the St. Louis area there are 9 new posts for various Craftsman saws since July 1st!
Most look like they have been sitting in a garage or barn for several years!
-
For $20 I'd buy one. I'd keep it setup for just cutting the wood down to the sizes I want to use... instead of my dewalt doing it.
-
Janet, check the Craig's List in your area....some are going for that amount here!
-
I'm kinda scared of craigslist. Could be some psycho selling it with a pit in his basement with a basket with lotion.
Untrusting, aren't i?
-
Meet in a public place, take a large male friend....
-
I have been using that Craftsman saaw for nearly 3 years. Lots of hours on it. Except for the on/off switch going bad, not one problem with it. Great entry-level saw. When it goes out, I will most likely move up to a Dewalt.
i started out with a craftsman a few yrs ago, it was a great saw. then when the bolt sheared off on the bottom arm, it was time for me to upgrade. i now own a dewalt, and have fixed my old craftsman and my sons are now learning how to scroll on it.
-
When I decided I wanted to start scrolling, I bought a few tools on craigs list. I had good luck with it. You have to know what you are looking for. The tools I got where not the best, but it got me started. I eventually replaced them with better grade tools.
-
What's up with the pit and lotion? I get the pit, but not the lotion. Flash...Wierdo holds woman hostage for 9 years in pit, but her skin was as soft as a baby's butt. Yes you are right. Don't answer Craigslist ads without a bodyguard.
they are just to lazy to use it!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I am going to buy a SKILL scroll saw (supposedly like new) for $25.00. Just for a back up or possibly to take to shows.
Any opinions on a skill?
-
I was given one for helping out at the Cub Scouts Pine Car Derby earlier this year. It was my introduction to scroll sawing. Two days later I bought the Dewalt. I still use the Craftsman but only for some sanding using various grits of the sanding blades. When not using it for sanding it holds my back door to my shop open for better ventilation.
CRASH!!!
That sounds like my first computer!
I inherited an old computer from a former boss. Called my friend who was a SuperGeek and asked what I could do with a computer with 256 megs of RAM.
His reply, "Do you still have your canoe? It will keep it from floating away!"
I think i'll keep the Craftsman to 'rough cut' stock to size so I don't have to drag out the table saw. (See Photos in another post!)
Hey GrayBeard, Thats where I have an advantage. I have a full woodshop in the garage. The wife has to park her car in the driveway, so I always have access to all the tools any time I need them!
-
Lucky for you....BAD for me!
I live with my sister in her place and have to cater to her whims and foibles!!!
Can you say, "Instant Gratification at all times and total convenience because even tho she is 8 years younger, I am much more mobile and agile!"
250 megs???? my first had 1meg and it cost 4000 dollars..9 in monitor..i thought i was soooo kewl. I like the craftsman though , it does just what i need it to do...nothing nothing at all LOL
-
dgman..i too have full access to my shop, which I share with my wife's car. If I have my tools out and she drives up..no problem..she just gets out of the car and moves my stuff out of the way...the trade off? I don't have to cook, go shopping, do laundry , iron or housework of any kind..fair trade doncha think????
The bad guy was going to use her skin to make clothing after he killed her. He didn't want nasty, dry skin for his clothes so he made her use the lotion to keep it nice. Probably easier to sew if it's nice and pliable too. Makes perfect sense. :o
Was that Silence of the Lambs or the prequel? It's been a while since I watched any of them.
What's this thread about? I forgot. LOL
-
Hey Becky, It must be way after 5'oclock!
-
This is starting to sound like one of those stories where everyone adds a few sentences.
My first computer was a Microbee cost about $1000 for 256 meg. and I was afraid to turn it on in case I wrecked it. LOL
-
Started with an Epson with a 20 mg hard drive for $2000 including the dog matrix printer. Thought it was the greatest. Now about 5 computers later . . . what amazing changes.
Remember before Windows and you had to run programs through DOS?
C:\>
I remember in those early years I wanted to buy stock in Microsoft. Hubby picked something else though and we lost alot of it. Needless to say I don't let him live that one down. :-\
-
Gee! You guys and your first computers make me jealous. :) Mine was a Shack I that had, if IRC 48K of ram and anything you wanted to save you put on a 5 1/4" disc. Had to write a lot of my own programs as next to nothing was available that I wanted. Next one was a C64 with a whopping 64K. Then an Amiga and after that I decided to join the crowd and have had several IBM type clones with MS OS's.
Internet???? Never heard of it back then. We dreamed about being able to get on a BBS that didn't involve LD charges. The changes over the years have been truly amazing.
-
Hey Chips...I used to sit up late at night to do on a BBS what we are doing right now. Thought I died and went to heaven when I finally got a 2400 baud modem!
Of course I also remember the CB's of the 60's and 70's!
Used to a 100 watt heater under the front seat! Boy could I 'get out'!
My first pc was a Commodore 64. That was before you could even buy a tape drive, much less a a hard drive. You type in the program, and if you turned it off, you had to start over next time. It was amazing what we could do with those early systems by comparision to the resources we have now.
-
My first was a Compaq "Luggable" (47 lbs) with two 5 1/4" floppy drives. I wasn't sure if I should buy it with 48 or 64K, finally went for the 64. Paid about $3,500 for it, and later added two 20 meg hard drives that slid into the card spaces.. $650 each. Oh, yeah, and a 1,200 baud modem. I remeber turning it on and looking at that DOS prompt, wondering what to do next. Boy, have things changed! Don't think scrollsaws are going to follow those same trend lines though. You know, slide in a pattern, a bit of wood, hit start and go to lunch? LOL.
-
Aww, dgman, I was just trying to explain the bit about the lotion for the woman in the pit. Honest, it made sense! ;)
But we're onto computers now. My first one was a TR-80 from Radio Shack. I used my tv for the monitor. It had a 300 baud modem and you had to take your phone off the hook and set it on the modem to make it work. It took 20 minutes to download 100K. But you could convienently download it right to a 5 1/4" floppy.
Greybeard, we probably visited some of the same BBS's back then though you could hold a gun to my head and I probably wouldn't be able to tell you their names. :)
Since you are having so much fun with Craigs List and saws and such for sale I will let you in on the ultimate search for Craigs List if you don't already know it. http://craiglook.com (http://craiglook.com). You can put in an item and hit search and it will search the whole country for you. Or you can put in a city and it will search within 250 miles. Check it out. I just found out about it. You won't believe the deals out there right now. Of course you have to bring money. ha...
