I am thinking about going to the Orange County Fair here in California.
Is anyone near there or planning on going too? I haven't picked a date yet. Let me know maybe we can meet up.
-
Why do I live so far away? Hear all of you about fairs and picnics and here I am searching my butt off to find even a general hobby do and then hoping there will be some woodwork around.

Hey There Thumbs,
I have been in California for 22 years and have never been to any of the fairs. Like you said California is too crowded. I think I will try to attend one this year. I will post if I do.... I happen to live in an area that's not crowded.
I love in 29 Palms. The Mojave Desert. Ever been there?

I was born and raised in Hayward Cali. Mom always took us to the Alameda county fair. Was a blast, but mom belonged to a group called the California Cowhide Carvers. Yep leather work and yes I used to do that too along with ceramics. But due to certain situations, i am now happily here in a small town in Missouri. Will never go back to Cali.

You know what they say Cherie.... You can never go home again.
I love it here in southern California, I will never leave it!
-
I've been to the Orange Co. Fair several times and I think the LA and San Diego Fairs are much better.

Best FAIR I ever attended was years ago... the TEXAS State Fair in Big D!
On the Saturday i was there it was the opening of the Fair, the Texas / Oklahoma Football game in the Cotton Bowl and President G. Ford was to attend the game.
Wildest weekend I think I have ever spent.
Them folks really take their 'football' seriously!
Had dinner with cousins, another cousin joined us for drinks and my cousin's wife wound up directing traffic in the middle of a 6 lane intersection at 3:30 in the a.m.
The next afternoon we went to the fair!
HUGE exhibition and MidWay!.
Neither of the women wanted to go on any rides though!!!!

I went to the Texas State Fair in 1956, and Texas was playing OU that year. Had one of the best times ever, then I got discharged from the Navy and had to go back to Michigan.

You must have been a raw recruit in '56!
I graduated HS in '55!

Hey there Intarsia92,
Do you belong to a scroll saw club?? I am looking for a club closer than San Diego. Someone told me about a club in the Inland Empire. Any suggestions?? Also i would love to see some of your work.
I haven't done any Intarsia yet but I do appreciate looking at it.
-
Hey GB, I graduated HS, Feb. 1951.
Mytoya, Orange County still has a Woodworking Club, I think. I attended a few times, but it wasn't very active and Whittier has a club, but it's main function is to make Toys, which I'm not into. I don't know anything about the Inland Empire club.

Hey Mytoya, I think I found a link for the Indland empire scrollers. Lets se if this will work. http://saw-online.com/ChapterSites/inland/index.htm

mytoya--spend 9 months in 1966 compliments of the USMC- then went on to much greener pastures(lol)--Got out of the marines in 69 and moved to Palm desert, then to Yucca valley in 1975--My wife and i split in 1992 and I moved to Palm Springs--Got tired of all the traffic and too many people, so moved back home to Iowa--I go back to Yucca once or twice a year to see the grand kids--Only reason I can find to go back there--Richard aka thumbs

Hey Thumbs,
Yucca is only 15 mins from me. So make sure the next time you are out this way look me up......
