Title: Plywood voids
Post by: Jack Fish on March 27, 2014, 02:02:22 pm
What do others use to fill voids in their plywood?  I am doing a project with 1/4 BB ply and came across a long streak of absent material in the core.  Is good 1 side (G1S) regularly only good on its face?

With the void my project will have an exceptional weak point.  I was going to use wood filler but I dont think its really what I need.  Maybe white glue mixed with sawdust?

Thanks,

Jack

Yes  white glue mixed with sanding powder...not sawdust. Sawdust it too coarse.

Sanding powder?  Never heard of it before.  Is that just from sifting through my work dust or is that a purchased product?

When I scroll I sometimes collect the dust in little plastic bags. I have bags of ash, walnut, cherry, and bloodwood. I use them for fillers as Jim suggested.

I did use two ways.
1) woodglue with fine sawdust of the just cut project
mix it to a fille and push it in.

2) 2 second glue (transparent) and the same sawdust.
add a drop of glue in to the hole and the tap some sawdust on it.
(use a plastic disposable spoon or little scrap wood)
CAREFUL NOT TO KEEP YOU FINGER ON IT! IT WILL STICK TO IT!!

By sanding powder I meant dust collected from an orbital sander.

Sorry for the delay in getting back.. Thanks for the info.  The dust from the orbital was very easy to work with and I now collect the dust into baggies.  Marked of course.

Thanks!
