i finished this with natural stain and clear gloss. i was not worried about the food safety on this because it will be for show only. I would probably put something under it even if it was foo safe  just to protect the finish. Mike

sorry i haven't posted any replies. Work interfers with my scrolling time. I just glued the base on but you could use a screw or dowel. The pattern is from Sue Mey (scrollsawartist.com) She has (2) different patterns for the cake stand. Just check out her website under miscellaneous or send her an email and she will show them to you. Both patterns are downloadable. Mike
