Title: Question about my finish on projects
Post by: arkiewood on December 11, 2013, 02:09:14 pm
I put spar varnish on my projects with brush but there are some small places i can't get to with brush. I was in town and found a can of Helsman spray urethane. Would it work to spray that over the varnish to cover everything.
Thanks

I use the spray on almost everything.  Spray, let it dry, buff it with some brown paper, spray again, done.

The best way to make sure you get into all the tiny kerfs is to dip your project into the finish. If you are using varnish, try thinning it before dipping. It may still be messy so try it on small projects first until you get familiar with it. Brushing and spraying won't get into all the tight spaces. I have found that is not a problem on most of my projects. But if you are using spar varnish for outdoor projects, it is more important to get finish on the entire piece.
