Title: Picture Frame
Post by: NJ Phil on November 18, 2013, 12:07:10 pm
I have a request from my nephew for a picture frame 8"x10", landscape, with

           the
         Moens

 across the bottom.
I've tried to do it without a pattern and wound up with a lot of sawdust.
Will use 1/2" ply.
Please help.

Got  a picture of what kind of landscape you are wanting??  Helps the pattern makers know what you want.

Landscape is the direction of the frame as opposed to portrait.

Phil - I recently posted a frame made from 2 pieces of 1/4" BB Plywood. The pieces are glued together to form 1/2" thickness. The back piece has a bigger cutout so it forms the pocket for the glass and picture. The front has a smaller cut-out - I made the front  cutout 1/2" smaller for 1/4" ledge on each side. Here's the posting:

The front piece is smaller than the back piece on mine, but the front could be the same or bigger than the back. Depends on how you want it to look.

I'd think you could cut out the name in the bottom side of the front piece and stain or paint the back piece to be your backer board that you'd see behind the cut out name. It would make a nice looking frame. Try Scroll Beach Italic for a nice font that will stay together when cut.

Ask questions if this is not clear.

I have some patterns you could look at, but the size limit on this site is too small. If you give me your email I will send them to you.
