I just want to know which wood wax finish is food safe and children toy safe forages under 5 years old and that don't chip off.
I was looking at birwax be is said on the side of the can it can cause cancer.
Oh by the way I have just sent my scroll saw to have him put new guts in my scroll saw for free.

For a food safe finish that will not chip, I use either shellac or a mix of beeswax and mineral oil. The beeswax gives a smooth finish but not very shiny. Several coats of shellac produce a nice finish.

This is a natural non-toxic, child safe, environmentally friendly finish that you can make at home. The video link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI5EJ9E-rp8
It is about the bees wax and mineral spirits and how to make it at home.

Do you mean you use the Bulls Eye Shellac if so which one do you use the clear or the amber?

The 'safest' finish for 'food safe' or children is plain old Mineral Oil from you neighborhood drug store...
totally safe & cheap as all get out!

Clear or amber the only difference is the color. You could also use lacquer. It is another natural product. In either case once the solvents have totally cured there is nothing toxic left behind.

ever thought about oil finish?
Ikea has a Wood treatment oil that can be used on surfaces where food is prepared.
