Cut from pine. This box has wood dowels for hinges. The box it 3x5x2. Sealed and finished with shellac. Flocked in Kelly Green.

Nice idea hinging like that. Is the body cut as concentric rectangles in a 2" board or are the sides joined?

For the body I cut two concentric rectangles the inner one smaller of course and the outer one only with 3 sides. I have done one similar with simple dovetails to put the sides together, so both approaches work.

Here's a knock-off of your good idea. I was looking for a gift box for a knife. This is cut from an 8" long piece of 2x4 with 1/8" BB Ply top and bottom and pinned with a 1/4" dowel.

That box looks great! I like to play with different designs like that, never know what will work or what will become designer firewood hehe. Thanks for sharing it with us. How are you going to line it?

I've been working with some felt from Hobby Lobby. It make a good backer for portraits. I might try that as a liner.
