I say its....Live n Learn.... Been Scrolling for around 7 years now. I have cut
Hundreds of patterns. Expect for using carbon paper at the very beginning and
then going into various glues to secure the pattern and as of the last 5 years or
so have always swore by using the painters tape. Probably went thru a dozen
or more rolls. Well....All of a sudden I started thinking about how dgman does
it mostly. Gave it a try and was VERY HAPPY with the RESULTS. I cut these
Santas Elf's Ornaments and basically all I did was use SPRAY GLUE on the back
of the pattern and slap it onto the wood blank. Stacked cut 4 up using 1/8 BB.
Was WORRIED the first one that the pattern might start lifting off the wood, but
held on till the end. Gave the piece with the pattern on it a couple sprays of
Spirits (put some in a spray bottle) and after MAYBE ONE MINUTE the pattern
ALMOST fell of the wood. Cool. Yea! Gave the wood blank a couple more sprays
and just wiped off the glue residue left over. PIECE OF CAKE. I decided to give
one of my cabinet doors some decoration. See Picture...........Anyway....

I've been using the spray glue for about 7 years and seldom have had a problem.
You do want to let it set-up and tack a bit before putting it on the wood and maybe cover it with clear packing tape but, I have never had a serious problem with removing the pattern after cutting it.

I too, have been using spray glue for years. If the project will take a considerable time (multiple days) completing, I cover it with clear packing tape. That way I avoid the glue from drying and lifting during cutting. I use paint thinner, dab on the pattern with a paper towel, wait awhile then wipe off the excess glue. Piece of cake.

You didn't say how you kept the stack together. I still use the painter's tape to hold the stack and it peels right off so still prefer that.

I like the spray glue but still use the blue painters tape and clear packing tape. It peals off so easy. :)

I still use Blue painters tape to hold the pieces together, and I use 3M super 77 spray glue to hold the pattern, I also find with the tape it comes off real easy. edward

Reason I decided to experiment with NOT USING PAINTERS TAPE is a project I did
just before....The tape took off a lil parts of the wood face. Pissed me off some.
This has happened several times in the past. Maybe 3M brand painters tape made
a bad roll. Anyway I am so, so happy as to how much easier this method is and how
super easy the pattern comes off.
When I cut my blanks I cut each a lil bit bigger than what I want the finished look
to be. I use Aileen tacky glue with JUST A SMALL LIL DROP IN AREAS AROUND
THE BLANK. Clamp for MAYBE ONE MINUTE. Works (sets) perfectly and will hold
forever. Fast CHEAP procedure I think.
I also use the 3M super 77 spray glue, but have used others.
All work GOOD.
Thanks for the compliments on my LITTLE CHRISTMAS ELFS. Had a lot of fun

I also join the stack with blue masking tape, attach the pattern with 3M spray glue, usually cover with clear packing tape. I use either mineral spirits (if there's no packing tape) or a WEN heat gun (if there is packing tape) to remove the pattern, then mineral spirits to clean the glue off the wood.

Fortunately I have never had any problems with the blue tape. I too use the 3M Super 77 spray glue. :)

Just a 2 cents worth.... Bet I changed to the Blue Painters tape over 4 years ago
and was using it right up till this change. I SWORE BY IT. Every project I used it.
Got used to pealing it off. Some projects took a while. I DID NOT use anything
like spirits or heat gun. Just slowly patiently peeled it off. Never wanted to apply
and liquid like spirits to it as would (to me) REALLY MAKE A MESS with it dissolving
the glue from the spray glue and also the sticky from the tape. Messy I still say.
Think I will still stay with ONLY the spray glue to the back of the pattern then onto
the wood blank. Hey maybe this be a nickles worth. LOL Danny :+}

I actually use latex glue for general us (copydex as we call it over in the UK), dab it on the back and smooth with the finger and off you go, no time waiting till its dry.
the pattern then just peels off without use of any spirits etc, and any residue just rubs off with a rub of a finger.
I must point out though that I do not use this on portraits or intricate work, for this I completely cover with masking tape (painters tape) and then attach the patterns with a childrens glue stick.

Does anyone but me use purple painters tape?Much better than blue but hard to find. I can only find it at Ace Hdw stores.

I have been using Elmers glue sticks for about a year and it works great. No spray to contend with. Also use packing tape over pattern to prevent burning.

i been using the xyron the sticker making machine it works great.

I use blue painters tape then glue the patter to that, peels off easy and don't have to use or smell any chemicals on the wood.
If I stack cut, I use my brad nailer, 1/4 wood it will work 3 stack with the shortest 5/8 brad nails but will punch though if not careful, can get 4 high but have to put couple nails in back, nail in waste or at the 4 corners to hold together then affix the pattern and nail some more if have to keeps stack nice and tight.
