Sorry to hear that. That would be a damper for sure. Can you find a local supplier that would avoid that crazy shipping?

I received (4) filet knife kits plus brass pin material from knifekits.com. They were sent USPS from CKK Industries in Haralson, Georgia to Lancaster, Ohio for a shipping charge of $5.85.  They were ordered on Sunday and arrived on Wednesday. I finished one yesterday afternoon using East Indian Rosewood and brass pins.

I wonder what it would cost if one our American members bought the knife and sent it through the mail?  It might be as simple as sticking a new mailing label, and postage, on the original wrapping.  Or it might get customs, duties, etc. involved.

Bugger the customs I say just repackage it and post it, the customs are then none the wiser.
My thoughts......

You don't say how the item was to be shipped, but my guess is that UPS was involved. They have a reputation for adding a heavy service chg for shipments to CA. Contact the vendor and insist that they use USPS. You may still have to pay duty, but you will be spared the brown boys service chg.

USPS should be cheaper.  I had one customer that lived close to the border and had orders shipped to a friend on the US side and would drive across and pick it up.

I say we just include Canada as part of the USA and then you wouldn't have to worry about it. LOL
You'd need new zip codes though.  :o :o :o :o

If you can get whomever you are buying from to use the postal service then your shipping costs are likely to be a heck of a lot cheaper.  If they insist on using UPS then you will be gouged.

Good luck.
