Title: Question?
Post by: crusty59 on April 27, 2013, 03:05:03 pm
Hi, I am working on another intarsia piece, It's a Pelican, my second time cutting this one. My question is, does it look better to put the backer on flush to the edges or set it in behind (or in) a little. I have always cut it flush but was wondering if it would be easier especially with this piece.
Thanks for any opinions

Although it is easier to set it in some, I think it looks more professional to have the backer extend out to the edge, especially if you're making it to sell or to give to someone.

I've found a system that works well and looks good.

Put it on the backer then trim around the piece with the saw set at 15 degrees to bevel the edge
